Seekonk,Mass;  As I called the starting lineup from the booth all I could imagine was seating in hallowed ground and in the same chair in the same booth where my good friend Rhode Island native Alan Bestwick started his eventually NASCAR broadcasting career.
A light field of Sports Trucks was on hand for the second week of the 2015 racing season. Tonight featured two heat races of 10 laps with 5 points awarded to the victor and de-sending by one point to the fifth place truck. In the course of a long season these valuable heat race points could decide the Seekonk 2015 NASCAR weekly track champion.
This competitive division features veterans and rookies in the mix. The current roster for the season has three current and former champions. Five time champion #80 Mike Cavallaro, who won the opener last week and the previous  year opening event also has in his possession 5 track championship trophies in his collection, all in the Sport Trucks.
Last years 2014 weekly champion #82 Rob Murphy comes back to attempt a repeat championship with a team mate in one #81 Chase Belcher.
The third strong contender in this field every heat and weekly race is the Seekonk Speedway 2013 champion # 21 John Paiva. Last year it seemed a few extra things went wrong for Paiva and when the championship was out of reach he focused on just winning a few races.
Paiva is a frequent guest on our weekly radio program, "Race Chatter" and recently told our listening audience that he was again hungry for another championship and was confident that he had the truck and crew to do it this year.
The first race of the year Cavallaro won, earned 50 points and a additional 3 points in his heat race. Paiva countered with a second in the feature and a big 5 points for his win in his heat race. Standings after 1 week 53 points apiece.
All Murphy did was unload his chariot and come home with a solid 3rd place finish for 46 points and a stout second for 4 points in his heat race.
After one  (Ice Man)Cavallaro 53, ( I'm All In) Paiva 53, and Drop Kick Murphy 50.  The fourth place truck after one is not considered a rookie, but hot shot #22 Dave Lougee comes with a pedigree of winning a track championship on the Fast Friday night SYRA. This truck is setup by his dad and I think will hold the checkered flag before seasons end. Seasoned veteran #4 Darryl Dutch rounded out the top five after week one at 44 hard earned points. Dutch also drives a beautiful blue older style (37) ?
2014 Champion #82 Rob (Drop Kick) Murphy
5 Time Champion #80 Mike Cavallaro dialing in !

Game Day Face , Cavallaro

Rookie # 17 Eric Lebrun will earn his Stripes in 2015 !

I think this great looking #22 David Lougee will hold the Checkered Flag in 2015 !

 # 21 John Paiva is hungry for the championship ring again in 2015 !

No better looking truck in the division and having a whole lot of Fun !
coupe on the NEAR Antique racers tour competitively.

The pole was held by #50 Mike Duarte who either spun the tires or missed a shift into gear at the start allowing #77 Lenny Guy the chance to pounce and he did. Murphy nabbed second from the outside with a power move. By lap two he got under Guy and took the early lead. Duarte reclaimed his composure and roared back to Murphy's bumper closer than a stamp on a letter.
The superior handling Cavallaro and Paiva climbed from sixth and seventh in two and half laps to contend.
The driving display by this group was a crowd pleaser and on many re-starts Paiva tried everything in his bag of tricks to gain the lead but raced a clean race and started to lose momentum on the high side and a slight looseness and really got up on the wheel and dropped down to third with Cavallaro slipping underneath him by about a size 11 inch work boot. # 81 Chase Belcher who ran a very smart race quietly now was running fourth followed by the hot rookie #17 Eric Lebrun. Very good competitive sports truck race that I am positive will be played out another 20 weeks or so depending on the Weather Gods and financing team budgets. Next race will be Saturday night, May 16th, 2015
