Valenti Modified Series Results,Airborne VMRS 100 Plattsburg, N.Y 9-7-14

The heavy rain forcast for Sat. 9-6 moved the event late in the racing season to Sunday 9-7 with only a few races left before crowning a 2014 Champion. Remaining scheduled events, Oct.4-5th Waterford Speedbowl, Conn., Oct.11-12th, Lee USA, Oct. 18-19th, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park
#25 Rowan Pennick reigning 2013 champion, entered the contest with a slim lead over #21 Justine Bonsignore and two time champion #5ct Chris Pasteryak. As of 9-2-14 Pennick 530, Bonsignore 523, Pasteryak 495, Richard Savory 465, Max Zachem 450,. Pennick extended his lead by winning his heat by 5 points. Pasteryak also won his heat for 5 additional points. The point payout for the finish is 50 to the winner. The point total then de-sends by 2 points for every position.
Bonsignore's chariot is owned by Art Barry and is a Spafco sponsored #21. Every race that I have attended though out the eastern seaboard in 2014 Bonsignore has been a serious threat to win. This modified division has been voted the Best in the USA two years running by Speed51.com, a very large well reporting race web- site by the educated race fans. Bonsignore had done everything but win to date.11 top 10's including a record 5 seconds in the 2014 racing season. He became the 10th different winner in 14 races this season and joins a long list of first time winners. It's great to win in your home State, New York and it was along road trip. When Justine was asked about the track from the press in his post race interview Justine said, "I wasn't too excited to come all the way up here, but what a fun race track. Progressive banking is what I said modifieds need to put on a good race, hopefully we can come back again.
Not a easy win today in a fast 37 minutes. Bonsignore's # 21 broke the rack and pinion in the practice session. During the feature race he lost the power steering, had no radios and late in the race the race car started shutting down. I think we lost the battery with 10 laps to go.Add to the mix a hard charging #9 Tommy Barrette Jr. from Millis, Mass who made the right adjustments and saved his tires for the final push to the front.
In victory lane Bonsignore said, "I hate to win them that way, but I had to run Tommy up each corner, it was my only chance. I thought that I was running out of fuel and was just doing what I had to win the race.
Rowan Pennick nursed his race car to a 6th place finish to tighten up the race even closer. Chris Pasteryak stood at the podium in the third position to stay in the hunt. Max Zachem won the pole after his super run at Thompson Speedway in his first Sunoco Modified start for Stan Mertz.
Zachem led the first 31 laps and finished a very hard fought 4th in the event. There was a lot of comments of the superb job turned in by Matthew Mead of Richmond, N.H. Fifth place today was like a win and it was a great race for me and our race team. This is a real cool place. Our times were decent all day. We weren't the fastest, but the race car felt strong and had a great starting position that always certainly helps in racing. The team had put on a new clip at Waterford, Conn. and since that time the race car has been fast everywhere and today we just plainly got some "GOOD"luck.
Best Speed in the race;;;;;111.961       Best lap time;16.077
