Thompson Speedway Sk Mod. Race 1 Results Sept. 4

Keith Rocco un-loaded a Rocketship tonight at Thompson Speedway, Conn. in the twin bill SK Modified 25 lap features. The first group took the green flag under bluebird skies with 17 race cars and #52 John Catania and #27 Tyler Chadwick winning the draw to start the race upfront. The first spinout with no apparent damage was #16 Todd Ceravolo on turn three untouched and maybe because of very little rubber on the track. The first big name casualty was #00 Woody Pitkat into the wall with race ending damage.
Lap 4 saw a lot of the field getting involved in a accordion effect in a big cloud of dust that involved 10 race cars. The #52 race car of John Catina could not get up to speed and forced the drivers to take chances to re-act, high and low and then the pileup. Chadwick was in front of it and on the restart held off #5 Cam McDermett for a lap. McDermett  held off a three wide challenge in turn 4 to keep it at the time.#31 Ryan Preece looked real good to me in practice and now was the time to turn on the afterburners with Rocco moving up through the remaining pack. Preece tapped Cam's bumper once then made his move in the turn three low groove in text book fashion.Ageless #79 Kerry Malone, a previous winner this season and still having a outside chance at a championship was next to challenge and attached himself to Preece's rear bumper.Rocco found a home in the third position for one lap and then Kerry's motor went up in smoke on lap 14.
Now the top two SK's of the remaining field who have been duking it out at Stafford on Fridays were about to change the theory of gravity to move the entire crowd to the edge of their bleacher seat for a classic display of driving skills. 6 laps of fantastic racing ,high and low, crossovers and Respect. Rocco final slingshot pass on lap 20 was the final blow and pulled away to the 25 lap feature first event of the beautiful night at Thompson.
" Ten laps seems like a long time out here" Rocco said in a post race interview. "You can do a lot of passing in 10 laps swapping the lead back and forth. Ryan is a great driver and we were able to put a show on for the race fans swapping it back and forth. But when it comes down to the last lap and who is leading the race'
