Seekonk Speedway Results Sat. Aug.30, 2014

Hard nose racing at the Seekonk Speedway tonight
.
Sports Trucks had #4 Darryl Church wining the race with the last 4 cylinder motor in the division against the high horsepower V8's .The comment that I would like to make is why #82 Rob Murphy doomed it necessary to take out last years champion #21 John Paiva from a sure second place finish and no stake in a 2014 championship ? Darryl led from wire to wire and never looked back !

Second Feature  Late Models

Looks like the streak is over for #71 Jerry DeGasparre to win a another championship in 2014. The all time track champion at 7 entered the night in third and 90 points back with 4 point races left in the racing season. He got boxed in his position for most of the race and had to settle for a 4th place finish again tonight. I seemed to me the race car was just lacking a little on the short straight-away's. The two drivers ahead of him were tied at 778 points with Jerry at 678. #12 Bobby Pelland and #46 Dylan Estrella are tasting the chance of knocking him off the Banquet Podium at the Venus DeMilo. Estrella faltered first and headed to the pits and Pelland ended the night in the 3 hole and most valuable points.  #7 Charlie Rose spanked the field tonight to a very loud applause from the educated race fans who have followed his career. I personally like Rose and a think we have the same Barber for our Capt. Comb over hair dos.

 Third Feature  Street Stocks

Rey Lovelace, last years runner up came in in first this year at 766 and 44 ahead of last years champion  #74 Scotty Bruneau and young sensation, #16 Austin Blais a shade back in third at 720 points (even with a no points, after market transmission bearing DQ )
Like last years record breaking points season, Rey Lovelace and Scotty Bruneau did exactly what they had to do with only 4 points races left. Both ran good races with Bruneau taking the Silver Medal and Lovelace taking home the Bronze Medal for third.
The podium belonged to #88  Edward Gannon III earning his first career victory in the highly competitive Street Stocks. The fans question of #21 Bobby Bettencourt's health and race car condition were answered with a hard fought 5th place finish, just in front of Mapleville, R.I. native #11 Cory Fanning's best career finish at the Cement Palace. Yes (NO) DQ tonight for the #11 race team who is running three tracks this year occasionally.

1     #88 Edward Gannon III  ( First Win )2 #74 Scotty Bruneau ( 2013 Champion)  3 # Rey Lovelace ( 2014 points leader and last years bridesmaid)       un-official at press time

Fourth Feature  Pro-Stocks

Dave Darling's yellow # 52 race car has dominated the division for a long time and the fans were on the edge of their seats to see if Dave had chink in his armor. He has been chipping away at the leader # 0 Ken Spenser each week and time is running out to garner a 5th division championship and his 3rd in a row. Just like a Timex watch that keeps on ticking, Darling paced the field and steadily made his way to front and to eventually pass #41 Dick Houlian who had shown a blistering early new found speed in the older style Len Ellis chariot. Dick Houlian is a New England legend in all divisions and any size surface. # 30 Fred Astle, found out early that he had his hands full and ended up spinning out and no longer a contender. Darling's 5th win of the 2014 Pro-Stock season really has Kenny Spenser sweating bullets and looking over his shoulder harness at a # 52 Dave Darling sensing another Brass Ring at the Banquet. Race fans, these two divisions fighting for a Track Championship are worth the price of the low entrance fee of $14 bucks. Great affordable concessions with fresh food. Two dollars off for senior citizens and the grandchildren 12 and under are FREE. Free parking for the month of September !
